I have not done a swap in forever. I used to love doing them over at
Splitcoast Stampers when I was doing a lot of Stamping' Up! parties. They are so much fun. Then I ran across
Mini Album Scraps and a mason jar swap. I just couldn't resit. I love mason jars and this was a swap for a mason jar nightlight. The basic rules were to make a mason jar or other similar jar into a night light using one of three themes…vintage, shabby chic, or grunge. My partner wanted me to do anything that I thought would be the best for him. I would say the style I choose was mostly vintage with just a hit of grunge. Without further ado…

My mom actually found this mason jar around the house so I didn't even need to buy one. Originally I though I would need to buy a whole case...turns out you can get single ones at Michaels...who knew (obviously not me). :) On the bottom of the jar I decoupaged on a paper doily sprayed with homemade glimmer mist. |
|
I added on a canvas label that I cut with a Stampin' Up! die cut - Labels Collection Framelits Dies. I sprayed the label with some walnut stain and other glimmer mist spray that I made up. I backstitched the "smile" and edged the canvas label with Tim Holtz Distress Embossing Powder in Vintage Photo that I have had laying around the house for ages (opened for the first time for this project). The flower was originally white and was glimmer misted and walnut stained. I got this flower and the other flowers you will see in the later pictures from SaCrafters. |
|
The lid was also covered with the Vintage Photo distress embossing powder. I added some lacy trim that I had in my stash that I died using more of the walnut stain. I also added a string of flat back pearls form SaCrafters. |
|
I punched holes in the top of the lid for more texture and added flowers. One started as read and the other purple. Both sprayed with glimmer mist and walnut stain. I added a pear center to one of the fabric flowers (also walnut stained). All flowers and pearl are from SaCrafters. |

The dragon flies that are wrapped around the jar are from Michaels that I got a LONG time ago and war on clearance. There was a entire roll of them. This is just a small section. |
I think that is about it. I have already sent the mason jar to my partner and he really seemed to like it. I will be posting the one that he sent me in a future post. Until then happy crafting.
Also, don't forget to check out
